Lydia Sackett is originally from small-town Oxford, Ohio where she received her early years of dance training at the Oxford Ballet Studio under Estelle Bean and Denise Briner. During those years she had the opportunity to perform with the Hamilton Ballet Theater, directed by Kevin Bell, and appeared as a soloist in the Nutcracker, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty.
In 2005, Lydia relocated to Kansas City to train with Dramatic Truth Ballet Theatre, directed by Liz Dimmel. Since graduating from DTBT’s trainee program in 2007, Lydia has danced as a company member and soloist with them appearing in Paquita, Dethroning the Prince, The Mystery of Christmas as Holy Spirit, and The Book of Esther as Esther along with many other individual works. In 2007 she debuted her own choreography in a collection of works entitled Storyographies. Both “His Eye Is On The Sparrow” and “Misfit’s Millinary” were then performed for a short time as a part of DTBT’s repertoire and “Misfit’s Millinary” went on to be performed by a group in Japan.
Lydia currently teaches for Dramatic Truth School of the Arts and Logos Dance Theater and occasionally choreographs for Kansas City Christian Youth Theater. She loves to tell stories, loves to play a character and loves improvisation. In her spare time you can find her concocting something delicious in the kitchen, taking a long walk or enjoying Cosby reruns with her husband.
