The Path to Graduation from Dramatic Truth
One of Dramatic Truth’s goals is to produce dancers with strong technique and a heart of worship. Wee Ballet through Ballet IIC students are placed according to age and development. In order to test into Ballet III, a Ballet IIC student must pass a physical technique test. As each dancer tests into the next level, the class requirements increase based on the difficulty of that level’s syllabus. In February of the year, students and their parents will meet with the teacher of their level to discuss and determine how the student is progressing.
The testing fee for physical tests is $20 per student per test. For the ballet written tests, each student will be loaned a DVD and a workbook to study for the test.
At the conclusion of level V, students may choose to graduate from Dramatic Truth.
Below please find the steps needed to qualify for graduation from the school beginning with Level III, assuming students have progressed through the Lower School. (Students may reduce their class load and transition to recreational at any time.)
Ballet IIIA and IIIB (age 11 and up)
Level IIIA (4 classes per week)
Level IIIB (5 classes per week)
Advancement beyond these levels requires that a technique and pointe test, as well as written exam be passed. Students at this level are eligible to participate in the Mystery of Christmas (Nutcracker in December) and the student worship concert at the end of the year.
In Ballet IV an understanding of the meshing of worship and fine technique is emphasized. Pas de deux, pointe and variations are added to studies, and battu is added to the allegro work. The opportunity to minister locally is made available through DT II Trainee Company.
Level IV (6 classes per week)
Participation in the Trainee Company is an additional class. Technique, pointe, and written exams are necessary to progress to Ballet V. Students at this level are eligible to audition as soloists in the Mystery of Christmas (Nutcracker in December) and participate in the student worship concert at the end of the year.
Ballet VA and VB
In Ballet V the student may still participate in the Trainee Co., but now has the opportunity to apprentice DT Ballet Theatre, Dramatic Truth’s professional company.
Level V (7 classes per week)
Once a student has completed and graduated through level IV, and performed Waltz of the Flowers or an equivalent pointe piece, they may choose to graduate from the school with a modern emphasis.
