Upper School

Ballet & Modern
Levels 3-6

These classes require a technique exam, a pointe exam for ladies, written exam, and teacher’s recommendation to progress

 to higher levels. A minimum of one year in each level is required for testing eligibility.


Criteria required for participation in any DT performance: If a student participating in the Lower or Upper School Program drops below the required number of ballet classes, the student will automatically be deferred to Non-Performance Status. Classes may only be dropped at the end of a semester and an email needs to be sent to studentaccounts@dramatictruth.org about any dropped classes before the next semester begins.

Level 3

Ballet IIIA

Beginning-Intermediate Ballet – Female dancers’ first year on pointe. Students add turns, small jumps, and large leaps to their foundational technique. Dancers may take part in onstage performance pieces that contain intricate choreography and challenging techniques. Ballet IIIA students have the option to audition for Dramatic Truth’s Youth Company. See Modern Department for Modern Classes.

This class does not perform in the Spring Worship Concert. See Beginning Pointe.

Ballet IIIB

Intermediate Ballet – Dancers learn more difficult turns in new positions and all directions in faster paced classes. Combinations of previously learned steps are linked together to create beautiful choreography. Ballet IIIB students have the option to audition for Dramatic Truth’s Youth Company.

Beginning Pointe

Students learn basic pointe technique and have the opportunity to perform on pointe for the first time! A specific Theraband is required for this class; see teacher for details.

Three Ballet III classes per week and Beginning Pointe required to perform.

Ballet IV

Advanced-Intermediate Ballet – Pointe & variations is added as a required class. Speed, and difficulty are increased. Batterie is added into all petite allegro. Ballet IV students have the option to audition for the Trainee Company and solos in The Mystery of Christmas.

Pointe IV

Advance-Intermediate Pointe – Continues and develops the specific pointe techniques necessary for more challenging steps.

Four Ballet IV classes and three Pointe IV class per week for performance eligibility.

Latino Dancers in Ballroom

Level 5

Ballet V

Advanced Ballet – Speed and difficulty are increased, as well as continued focus on artistry and emotion while executing classroom combinations. Multiple pirouettes and complex turn and jump combinations are incorporated. Stage presence and worship continue to be integrated with strong technique and clean execution. Ballet V students have the option to audition for Dramatic Truth Trainee Company. See Modern Department for Modern Classes.

Pointe V

Advanced Pointe – Progresses with more complex and intricate pointe work.

Four Ballet V classes and three Pointe V class per week for performance eligibility.

Pointe & Variations 

Puts the more complex and intricate pointe work training into theatrical practice. Touching on various classical ballets (Coppélia, Swan lake, Sleeping Beauty, etc.), this class adds character elements and stylization into each student’s performance. The class encourages students to add their own personality and adapt the variations to work for them, giving them ownership in their dancing.

​

All Ballet and Pointe classes are required to perform. Dress Code: DT Attire of Level.
